For art class, we were asked to create a mash-up project, where we create something with the purpose of being composed of multiple ideas and/or media. For my mash-up, I wanted to do something related to history so I began looking for ideas. For a couple of days, not much came to me, until I heard the song Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones. At thag point I decided to make my project about the Cold War. Not just the war itself, but the way people felt about the tension. I called it Misconstrued. My idea was to try and capture what people worried about, on both sides you had people who wanted peace and strived to understand each other. Yet people were continuously bombarded with misinformation and why communism/capitolism is a threat and how the enemy is simply waiting to anhialate you. This wasn't the case, the United States' and Soviet Union's intentions were just misinterpreted.
I try to use colors that represented the main super powers in the Cold War, being the US and SU. The red and yellow represents communism and how it's feared. I used blue for the US as it's its main color. I also tried experimenting with diffefent textures. For example, on the top of the TV I tried to give a worn feel by making the colors bleed and purposefully left scratch marks. I did this to show that the Cold War was in the past, but thebfesr still lingers on. I represented the United States on one side of the TV and the Soviet Union on the other to make the work feel balanced, it also represents how they were seperated and couldn't communicate very well. Using line and form I was able to create objects such as signs, canons, abd bombs. On the top side I used pattern to create the stripes of the American flag and bleed it into the Soviet flag. I did this to represent that there is no "bad side" and that both countries were at fault and guilty of manipulating people and making false claims.
I wish I could've done more before the deadline, but being my first all paint media project, I'm okay with how it turned out. I'd like to add more in Summer and "finish" it, because I still have a lot of ideas in mind.

Aesthetic Response
We're constantly bombarded with bias.
“The USA is our enemy, the government will protect us.”
Our teachers dedicate most of their time to History and Math now. They say we need to be more patriotic and efficient. In fact, they've completely cut out my favorite subject, reading. They say it's not as “important” as mathematics and science. School isn't fun anymore. It doesn't help that each day we have a bomb drill, where we hide under our desks in fear of an American bombing. Even though school isn't fun or exciting anymore, I'd still rather be there than in the city.
Speaking of which, it's not abnormal to hear people protesting. Normally complaining about getting better jobs, food, etc. I've heard that in America, they can choose their jobs and buy their own goods, which sounds nice but they always make bad decisions. I've also heard they're rather selfish, which would explain why they're aiming all their guns at me.
While modern life is a bit rough here, I'm sure it's worse over seas. Why does it matter if you can do what you want, if someone is just going to drain you of everything you have. I can't imagine some aristocrat coming along and draining my savings, kopek by kopek. Though, I do wonder what it would be like to live there.
I look around me and see others struggling, but I've never seen and American struggle. Perhaps it's not as bad as everyone says. But I'm certain no American would want me in their home. If I could go, I wouldn't last long. I'd either get killed or die in the struggle for riches. Either way I'm not welcome, and I'm not worth much money there.
